About ME

The Artist & the art

Art has been a large part of my life for many years.  I have been painting since 1999 experimenting with different styles, different mediums and have a catalogue of paintings that have a deep connection to things I love and real life struggles I was experiencing at that time.

My early work was heavily influenced by the BauHaus movement of the early 20th Century, particularly Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee and Piet Mondrian.  Some of my early paintings were painted in acrylic mainly for environmental reasons. Acrylic paint is water-based whereas with oil you have to use solvents which gave me severe headaches.  Some of my paintings were painted with watercolour and gouache which I found easier to work with as they lend themselves nicely to a more freestyle method, similar to when architects and designers sketch.

The paintings I produce now are more mature, better grounded using water mixable oil paints which are easier to work with.  I find myself drawn to painting skies and seascapes.  From time to time I take myself off to a seaside town and walk, take in the sea air, gather inspiration and take copious photographs to aid in composition of my new paintings.  I find the sea inspirational always moving, changing, full of life itself.

I feel these painting speak directly to the times we are all experiencing in different ways that resonate with the profound changes happening on the planet that ripple out on an everyday level in humanity.

I hope you enjoy my work.
